Talamh Beo is a grassroots, farmer led organisation  on the island of Ireland which aims to ensure a living landscape where people and ecosystems can thrive together.

OUR VISION:

We want to create a better food system in Ireland, where all people have access to healthy, nutritious and affordable local food.

We want to farm in ways which benefit and restore natural ecosystems and build soils, leaving the land better than when we started.

We want to show solidarity with rural communities across Ireland and the world and ensure that living from the land and with the land continues into the future.

Talamh Beo is a democratically organised, member-led organisation. It is run by farmers who have direct experience of the issues they campaign on in their livelihoods and communities.

We believe that farmers and communities should be at the centre of decision-making for food and agriculture systems and developing agricultural policies.

We stand for a system which puts the power back into the hands of farmers, communities and citizens instead of corporate interests and industrial agriculture and food production.

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

  • Food, fuel and fibre Sovereignty
  • Land use which improves social, economic and environmental conditions
  • Resilient rural and farming communities
  • Direct access to culturally appropriate, nutrient dense, quality and local food
  • Where everybody has access to healthy, regionally produced, affordable food from farmers they can trust.

We stand for a food system that:

  • Improves the health of the environment in which we live
  • Meets the challenges of climate change and ecological decline
  • Improves the ability of future generations to provide for themselves
  • Protects the wellbeing of people here and around the world
OUR STRUCTURE:

Talamh Beo is registered as a company limited by guarantee (CLG). Our main committee or "core group" as we call it, is made up of 12 members - 6 male and 6 female.

The core group meets online and face to face to organise events and activities, draft materials and further the aims of the organisation. The core group is elected at the AGM each year.

We hope to establish a working group structure in the future where members with specific interests (beef,  sheep or dairy farming, forestry, seeds, tillage, horticulture etc) can exchange information, propose policy and act together.

The current members of the Core group are:

  • Thomas O'Connor (Kerry)
  • Mimi Crawford (Tipperary)
  • Fergal Anderson (Galway)
  • John Brennan (Leitrim)
  • Sinead Moran (Mayo)
  • Fergal Smith (Clare)
  • Mary McGuinness (Tipperary)
  • Kevin Dudley (Tipperary)
  • Breda Larkin (Galway)
  • Hasret Dayan (Tipperary)
  • Emanuela Russo (Galway)
  • Bridget Murphy (Mayo)
